Mike Gallagher’s road to becoming one of the most listened-to radio talk show hosts in the country began here in the Upstate in 1989. It was in Greenville where Mike’s professional and personal worlds left such a profound impact on his life, having met and married his late wife Denise and where they raised their four children. He was featured nightly on WSPA-TV as a commentator, a precursor to his current role as a contributor on the Fox News Channel nationally. He spent a couple of years hosting “The Tiger Tailgate Show” on the Clemson Sports Network. Gallagher has also been a fixture as an actor in the local theater scene, playing featured roles in shows at Centre Stage, Little Theatre and the South Carolina Children’s Theatre. More recently, he received a Tony Award for his investment in the New York smash “Pippin.” He even made it to Broadway, playing the role of the White DJ at the Shubert Theater and on the national tour of the hit musical, “Memphis.”

Mike was born in Dayton, Ohio and talked his way into an on-air shift in his hometown when he was a 17-year-old senior in high school. The call that changed his life came from Upstate radio executive Jim Burnside in 1989 who hired Mike as a local host on WFBC-AM, where his ratings and revenue success eventually led to him becoming station manager. From Greenville, Mike moved to Albany, New York in 1994 where he became the afternoon drive leader on powerhouse WGY-AM. From Albany, it was just a short drive south to the nation’s number one market where Mike enjoyed a two year stint as morning drive host on WABC-AM, which was, at the time, the nation’s most listened-to talk station. In 1998, The Mike Gallagher Show was launched nationally with 12 radio stations. Today, Talkers Magazine reports that he has over 3.75 million listeners a week in markets all over the country, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and of course, in the Upstate on 94.5 WGTK The Answer. According to the Benchmark Company, Mike is the 8th most-recognized talk personality in America.

Mike has written two popular books, “Surrounded by Idiots – Fighting Liberal Lunacy in America” (which became a New York Times bestseller) and the humorous “50 Things Liberals Love to Hate.” Mike is enormously respected by his peers in the radio industry. For 17 consecutive years, he has been featured in Talkers Magazine’s “Heavy Hundred” list, a compilation of the 100 most popular radio talk show hosts in the country.

Mike spends his time between New York City and the Upstate and is proud of his years-long relationship with South Carolina listeners. But beyond his role as a broadcaster, Mike is most gratified for the success of “Gallagher’s Army: Fallen Officer Fund”, his charitable foundation, which assists the families of police officers who have been killed in the line of duty (gallaghersarmy.org). To date, the 501(c)3 has distributed nearly $2 million dollars to these brave families. Mike works closely with Gallagher’s Army’s Foundation Director Joey Hudson, who is his years-long friend and General Manager and afternoon host on 94.5 WGTK The Answer.

Known as “The Happy Conservative Warrior,” his combination of entertaining, fast-paced content, as well as his first-name basis relationship with leading newsmakers all over the country, has resulted in The Mike Gallagher Show being one of the most consistently popular programs on the radio today.
